The Sheiko Experiment



Hi folks my name is Dave and I have been Eric Talmant's friend and coach for about 5 years. For a few years Eric has been trying to convince me to try a Sheiko workout program. Come on try it will work for you, no it’s not too much work. You will be squatting twice a week, sometimes twice in one day. In addition, you will be benching up to 4 times a week! Eric, your nuts! I’m 40+ years old, don’t eat any sorts of meats and you want me to workout like an eighteen year old? Yes! I don’t think so and you’re still nuts! After several years of pestering me I finally gave in. So where did I start? I started with a program similar to sheiko #29, 3 days a week. The first time I did it I guessed what my maxes were. I was coming off surgery and thought eh I can do this, I can do that. Big mistake! I got through the first ten days and I had to rethink my maxes. After I got through the 4 week program I retested my maxes and got a new true max for my squat, bench and deadlift. Now the real work begins. Eric told me; don’t let it this program fool you- it’s not as easy as you think. He told me as you’re going along in this program keep in mind that week 3 beats you up pretty good. I’m thinking you’re full of crap! Sure enough week 3 rolls around and I have had enough of this crap! I’m sore, I’m tired and I’m just all around pissed off! (Can we say over trained) So I hang in there and make it through all 8 weeks. The first time through I got 22lbs on my squat, 3lbs on my bench and 39lbs on my deadlift. My second time through I got 22lbs more on my squat, 7lbs on more my bench and 14lbs more on my deadlift.
