The purpose of this Coaching Log is to show you an array of bench and bench-like movements, specifically 3-board RAW press, American cambered yoke bar press, 3-board shirted press, floor press, RAW flat bench, shirted 3 to 2 board press, high rep db press, Buffalo bar chaos bench, and 2 board Metal Catapult press.

Much like there is Newton’s third law of motion, “for every action there is an equal and opposite action,” there is the powerlifting law of the bench, “Monday night is bench night.” And at the MONSTER GARAGE GYM this is no exception.

This past Monday you had some 21 powerlifters training on 6 benches, preparing for 3 different meets, doing 9 different movements all lifting on 1 powerlifting team at 1 powerlifting gym.

The accompanying video captures a good chunk of the variety on this night. Some sub-maximal, some max-effort and a few high volume. So there is a little something for everyone in this video and our hope is that as you are putting together your bench programming, one of these movements or maybe a couple are worth consideration for incorporation into your bench routine.

As different as these movements are, there is one aspect that each one of them that is universal to them all. They need to be performed with the proper technique. Technique, technique, technique is the bed rock of the successful powerlifter. Keep in mind that variations in a movements as well as programming means nothing without the foundation of technique underneath.
