APF State meet December 15, 2019
Training
Going in today’s training I had the mindset to have fun because I haven’t used wagon wheels on a dead lift in well over a year. We are also coming off of a deal load so I felt pretty good this week as Monday squats went well as did bench two days prior. Speed squats felt good I’m holding the bar slightly higher in my stance is narrower than it has been in the past while still holding a proper position even with a box.
As we got going on dead lifting it was quickly apparent that my grip issues were still going to be a problem for the day. The added band tension was doing me no favors and my grip felt, for lack of a better word, tired. Even after all of the callus removal, lotion, and sanding of hands they still do not want to hold onto the bar. As you can see in the video I was very uncomfortable with my grip position as my heavier set so I started to re-grip every rep and my down sets had many re-grips as well. following today’s training my hands were sore for almost 2 days to follow.
Some things that Julia pointed out was my inability to externally rotate my left shoulder which is my under grip hand, we think this may be one of the main root causes for that hand to constantly be having issues. after working with a therapist up here to get my back healed and bracing better I am going to attempt to go back to my old way of pulling and setting up to see if that helps.
