Last day of openers then I have my lifters take a down week to rest up, continue their weight cuts for those cutting, get ample rest, think positive and become mentally prepared.
Deadlift openers are always so much easier than bench-press and squat openers. Less to deal with and less to worry about.
We take deadlift openers from the floor and take 2nd attempts from 2" blocks. Occasionally I will allow a lifter to take a 3rd attempt from 4" blocks but that's a rare case. Everyone is different in what they need and don't need.
Everyone openers and 2nd attempts went as planned and are good to go.
Just to show you how on top I am with all my lifters competing, here is one my spred sheet for squats with all the info I need in hand to make my calls and adjustments as the meet moves from attempt to attempt. I know what their best lifts are for a weight class and best ever, projection lift, 1st attempt, 2nd attempt, records available to go after, weight class, division, class, meet and even elite totals. This way I have all I need to make proper calls during the meet. I have a sheet for squat, bench and deadlift and each of them look like this. I have done it this way for years and this has become invaluable to me having this at my disposal at each meet we do. I consider myself a real coach and do not make calls on the fly. I put a lot of thought in to each of my lifters during their training cycles. I want them to have success and I want to give them all I have as a coach to get them there. I take what we do very serious and I want to be very well prepared and for them to have nothing to worry about come meet time. So the next time you see me at a meet with my note book studying it in between attempts, you now know what I am looking at and how prepared I come. I am not a cookie cutter coach....
