What a great day! It was time to test my annual maxes. I have standing annual lifting goals of a 2x bodyweight bench and a 2.5 bodyweight deadlift. At 192.5 that’s a 385 bench and a 485 deadlift.

The 385 on the bench felt harder than I wanted but I finished it. The real goal in my head was 4 plates per side. That’s always fun. It was a grind, but f’n A I got it 405. In the past, if I stalled at the top I would have never been able to finish it. Progress, Sweet!

The 485 on the deadlift moved well enough so of course I wanted 5 plates per side. On my trap bar it made it 510 lbs. If a fly landed on it, I might not have gotten it, but it came up. It was an awesome feeling.

The most important thing is that my body feels better than it has in decades. I am incredibly grateful for that and to still have the ability and desire to chase meaningful goals for myself.

Feeling so great I am going to attempt to take the shoulder saver away from the bench and the blocks away from the deadlift as I know a full range of motion would be better. I have not been using them for ego, but to work around nagging injuries. We’ll see how my body takes to it. I will be going super light anyway as I’ll be entering a conditioning phase for my mile goal. LFG!
