When opportunity knocks what do you do? Run the other way or grab it like a pair of bull horns, hang on tight and take it for a ride?
Well if you know me at all give me an amazing opportunity I'm gonna take it. Give me a challenge I'm gonna take it. I qualified and was registered to lift full power at the XPC Finals, Arnold's 2017.
Then I hear a knock knock, hello you have a big enough deadlift for the "Main Stage Event" would you like to do that instead? Hell yeah I say, I won't be too intimidated by hundreds of thousands of people at all, bring it. GULP!
I just so happen to have a brand new Metal M single ply squat/deadlift suit in my bag. So excited to get into it for the first time, here is my training. At the end of this blog I will tell you my goal.
WARM UPS GHR'S/BELT SQUAT X 20 EACH
RAW DEADLIFTS
256 LBS X 3/3
PUT ON SUIT (TAKES 30 MINS JEZZZUS IT'S TIGHT)
DEADLIFTS WITH SUIT (CAN'T GET TO BAR)
KEN RAISES BAR 2 INCHES
256 LBS x 3 Got down to bar but poor posture
306 LBS x 3/2/1/1/1 (The last two were the best, got the suit stretched enough to get my shoulders back)
Lifting in gear is a whole new animal. You have to be patient and smart and learn all over again. Ken was really patient with me. I didn't cry and wine about the pain, I just sucked it up, accepted it and worked hard. I would say the first time in the suit was a success. I was curious to know how much spring I got out of it because I did not feel much help. 306 lbs for me isn't a struggle at best so I pulled one without my suit to feel the difference.
306 lbs no suit (easy but alot slower, suit clearly worked)
I'm excited to start putting some weight on the bar now. I am going to have to adjust my training now and really hammer my glutes and hamstrings and back. Thanks to my hubby Ken who always encourages me and helps me succeed in whatever I do. He is more excited than me to watch me on the Main Stage at the XPC Deadlift Expo.
My goal will be big, I am going to aim for a 500 Lb Deadlift.
Follow my blogs, see how I will get there.
