Like usual, I made an abrupt and last minute decision concerning my competition plans. I will be competing in Northern Nevada's Strongest Man on August 13, 2016 in order to qualify for Master's Nationals in Vegas at the Olympia on September 16. In short, I changed my direction because of my love for grip and as a long time advocate to see the return to more grip inclusion in strongman. Northern Nevada's Strongest has max distance farmers and Master's Nats has an awesome farmer's type medley and frame hold for time. The events were calling me. In short, I am in love.
From Saturday, July 9
Talk about trashing the grip! It takes a lot to fry my support grip and by the end, I couldn't even open my fingers. You really need to try this. The next day my entire upper body was sore and my were hands aching. THIS is what I have been looking for in my training, pain in my hands. I love that feeling and having the opportunity with my training to do this sort of stuff. Rolling/Mobility
Trap Bar Block Pulls 150, 2x5 240, 1x5 330, 1x3 380, 1x3 410, 1x3 430, 3x3 This is where it got really good...
Trap Bar Holds For Time
I randomly chose a light weight that I figured I could hold for 30 seconds pretty easily.
230, 1x30 seconds 230, hold for 30 seconds, DL 1x5 230, hold for 20 seconds, DL 1x5, hold for 20 seconds
The event at nationals is farmer carry 30 ft, DL 1x3, carry 30 feet, DL 1x3, Next week I will tweak this event a little bit in my training by including a second DL set at the end.
Keg Runs RUN! YES!! For the first time back to this sort of stuff, it was fun to see that my speed is returning and I have a ton of room for improvement still!
140 keg, 2x50 feet
160 keg 1x50 feet - 10 seconds 1x50 feet - 8 seconds
150 sandbag 1x50 feet - 8.5 seconds 1x50 feet - 8.66 seconds
While I am offering suggestions, here is an outstanding use for any trophies you might have sitting around.
