Well, 2016 is quickly coming to an end and my goal deadline is as well. 750 by the end of 2016 so that I can deadlift 771 by Summer 2017 and 804 by the end of 2017. The end is near and I know that I'm near as well. A few months ago I know that I was ready and able to pull 750 but a lot has happened since then.
December has seen me with a lot of medical attention and hospital visits. This turns into a plus of bills and a hug subtraction of bodyweight. How much in bills? You don't want to know. How much have I lost? Over 30 lbs in a couple of weeks time.
I'd said that I was going to back up and push the 750 pull back several weeks up to several months BUT there is still a little voice that sits in the back of my mind that is pretty crazy if you listen to him. This voice tells me that I can put myself into a position to make the pull, if I'd just listen to him and not the kind voice that sits elsewhere in my mind. So...that is exactly what I did.
A second best goal of 750 x 1 was me pulling another goal of 700+ 55 lbs in chains x 1. I know, chains are not free weight but every single time that I've deadlifted with 55 lbs of chain I've been able to pull it in straight weight. Add to this that chain weight doesn't scare me as much in my mind and you have a recipe for success.
Sunday didn't roll around, Saturday did! It was Christmas Eve and I'd done snatch, clean and jerk, squats and front squats the day before and had to get stuff done to get home and ready for Christmas. I had already done a huge warm up of med ball slams and 3 inch axle clean and presses, max axle press, log press with chains, and then I loaded the bar to deadlift. Each set felt better than the previous and every ACDC song got louder by the set.
So I loaded the bar, 703+ 55 lbs in chains and I rode it. Did I see The Pale Horse and The Deadlift Reaper? I certainly did... But when I came to (as you can see in the video) I was really freaking happy!
