A couple of weeks ago I had a client that I work with online (actually 3 in the same week) convey to me that they were not happy with their progress because they had recently been sick, worked too many hours, and/or had been traveling a lot during that time. For each one of them I sent them back a message simply stating that I accept full responsibility for their lack of progress and that I would take better control from now on.
Almost immediately, from each of the three of them, they replied back that it was not my fault and that I shouldn't take on their responsibility like that and that they would get back to working harder than ever. Little did they know what I meant...
I restructured their program and got straight in their face. They were behind several weeks in a row on progress and the only way to catch up was to get RIGHT in their training, do all of the accessory work, and recover like crazy. I don't think it took them too long to figure out what I meant by all of that.
And then came along last Monday. It was a holiday here and the local gym I go to on Mondays for recovery...was closed. Now, I was prepared so I brought home a bunch of stuff from my gym so I could train and recover at home but about 3/4 of the way through, I seemingly had not been putting forth the effort that Luke thought I should have been putting forward and he just walked straight up and eyeballed me for a solid three seconds.
I got the point and I got back to work.
So if you have a coach that is all up in your face, remember that you are his boss not the other way around and that maybe they are pushing you like they are for good reason.
Except clearly my 3 year old is my boss and I'm just living in an illusion. 🙂
