Here we are, weeks 7 and 8 of hypertrophy training. It's been a long time since I've done "blocks" like this. For 15 years, I trained pretty straight conjugate and when was in an off-season, I added more volume, or single leg work or any other non-comp specific stuff.
I've enjoyed this. It's taken me back to my bodybuilding days... except my body hates me more this time around.
We are keeping some tempo work in. The reason? Because it works. The time under tension has helped me refocus on some positions and it's allowed some of our newer lifters on the team learn control.
I've talked about this before, but there's a time and a place to move weight and there's a time and place to slow things down and contract.
This was a fun finisher for us on our upper press day. Ladder pushups - an old, forgotten favorite. I don't think the team was very happy with me for programming it in. If you remember a few weeks back I talked about pushups for powerlifters... and here we are still doing them.
Not only are these good for broken powerlifters, but these are awesome for athletes and youngsters as well. It's a fun and safe challenge for kids to compete a little and learn how to push themselves without risk of injury. Adjust your heights according to the skill of the athlete and go!
