I sat out the other night, late as usual, to load Atlas Stones. The plan was 5 sets of 3 to taller platforms than what I've been using which is challenge with my back.
Nothing heavy, just the 230 lb stone. Set 1 to be pedestrian and to pick up speed on each set.
Heck yeah, knocked them out and every set felt better than the one before. It is amazing how much easier Atlas Stones are when it is not well over 100 degrees outside.
Then I rolled over the 285 lb Stone and managed to load it to the same height...The Wall, A Tire, and 6 Mats.
Got greedy and rolled the new 150 KG 330 lb Atlas Stone over and gave it a pull. That sucker just wasn't made correctly. There is some type of slick sealant on top of it and not even tacky will stick to it. I might as well put melted hair gel mixed with WD-40 on it...you just can't grab it. I'm not sure you could get it to bounce off of a wall it is so slick...I can push it down the driveway instead of rolling it...no joke! Even with tacky on it. I got it to my lap but just nothing else was going to happen...
And I sat there sad. I put away all the stones and the protection for the floor and cleaned the tacky off of my hands and talked to myself. I knew, I KNEW, that when I walk into the door of the house my wife is going to ask me "So, how did it go?" and I'm going to say "Ehhhh...OK I guess. I missed the 150 stone.
I knew, I KNEW, that when I walk into the door of the house my wife is going to ask me "So, how did it go?" and I'm going to say "Ehhhh...OK I guess. I missed the 150 stone.
And then I heard her voice in the back of my mind say...
"But didn't you tell me you were only doing the light stones tonight? And how many other people would work a full day, run their kids all over town, and then do stones outside in January, ALONE, AT 11:30 AT NIGHT!"
And hearing her voice in my head I realized that that voice was right. I did my work. The contest is not today and at this point in my life (don't get me wrong, I never leave the idea of meet prep) I had already done my job long before I got to the "150 stone".
So, standing outside, I sent her a text message asking if I could do some more work, cleaning up and such. She replied back "Sure baby, how did it go?".
"Actually, it went even better than planned..."
