Orlando Barbell's lifters Jeff Sanchez, Jon Burnham and Chad Corliss have put up solid raw numbers and have decided to give equipped lifting a try. Jeff is trying multi-ply and Jon single. Chad will be getting into gear soon and Yohan is honing his single ply skills.  We'll get Stephen Harper back in the rotation here soon too.

Everyone is catching on quickly. They're following my method of working their way down the box with squats to get used to the gear (just as with the boards for bench). My typical rotation for the squat is:

Week 1- High Box with a Specialty bar, (triples the first week, then doubles, then singles)

Week 2- High Box with a Specialty bar, (triples the first week, then doubles, then singles)

Week 3- Reverse Band Full ROM, usually with the Buffalo Bar since it’s the same diameter and weight as the squat bar while reducing shoulder stress (triples the first week, then doubles, then singles)

Chains are usually added to reach the desired percentage off the boxes until around 6 to 8 weeks out from a meet.

Although triples or doubles might be on the agenda, that usually goes out the window. Singles might beat us up more, but they’re more fun.

Here’s some of last week’s training off of the Parallel Box.

Here’s Jeff working up to 715+200 lbs of chains with the heavy 85 lb. Cambered Bar:

Jovan “Yohan” Montalvo has been hanging with me on squats so we need him to post his videos too.

As I mentioned, It's cool to see these guys putting up more weight and enjoying the change. I'm happy to help them and will keep updating on their transition to equipped lifting.
