“We are a family.” This is the first collegiate strength and conditioning myth I’d like to debunk. Hear me out.
‘Tis the season to reflect on the past, present, and future. Don’t be a Scrooge — take a moment to thank the people who have shaped who you are today.
In the realm of strength and conditioning, you are always selling yourself to administrators, athletic directors, sport coaches, your boss, athletes, recruits, and everyone else around you. Will they like what they see?
As I see it, there are three directions that this profession can go. I know I favor one and I’ll explain why.
As far as relating to the athletes, I think that because you are around them every day, you will pick up on the current trends.
If you’re a head coach, don’t do this. If you’re going to do this, don’t hire a strength coach.
