Heavy Lower @ ISCF
Today was my first chance to use my new G.F.T.B. 9000 (that's Giant F@cking Trap Bar) and it was joyful and triumphant. The G.F.T.B. 9000 is the EliteFTS rackable trap bar with high handles added on. It's 100 lbs empty and built like a brick crap house. In addition to being able to train trap bar deadlift with any weight I want now (limited to maybe 700 tops on a standard trap bar versus 1,000+ on this bar) and being able to use it to train frame carries, I'm also using it for the deadlift medley event in the strongman/strongwoman comp I'm running the first weekend in December.
Giant Trap Bar DL (high handles)
20x100
10x190
10x300
6x390
4x480
1x570
1x620 - This felt easy, but I almost pulled a Matt Ladewski and passed out.
3x620 - Much better and moving pretty well, video.
2x5x560
I really wanted to head over to the rack after this and try to work up to 1,000+ lbs like my fellow Meat Head Dream Teamer, Jeff Sweet, did in training for his most recent comp where he kicked ass and took names at Palmetto State's Strongest Man. (If you're reading this Jeffrey, I am pulling for a MHDT reunion at USS nats next year in C'bus!) I didn't though because despite my left shoulder feeling good on all this, I could tell on heavy set of 3x that it was starting to just go along for the ride instead of maintaining tightess and stability. This is why I stopped at 620 and only did 2 down sets instead of 3.
RDLs
10x45
10x135
4x225
8x315
2x8x365
Left hammy was feeling tight up high. It felt like it would be resolved if I could get my hip to pop, but I had no luck trying that between my sets.
RFE DB Split Squats/SSYB Calf Raises
10ea x BW/25x245
2x{10ea x 80/25x245}
I was dying by the end of this, taking 10+ minute breaks between sets where I just sat in front of one of the giant fans at Iron Strong.
