As one would guess there is some shit talking that goes on out at the compound. On this particular day, I was shit talking a bit and said that I was going to do whatever Dave did. Dave's response was "He doesn't even know what I'm doing". At this moment I knew I screwed up. I don't know much about playing chess but I do know you are supposed to be able to plan multiple moves ahead of your current move. When I make the statement of doing what Dave did, before even knowing what he was going to do, I forfeited control of everything. Dave took this opportunity to do what I've referred to since as "chess move" on me. Now Dave knows if he does the spider bar or camber bar I'll just renege, take the verbal abuse and move on. I don't ever use those bars anymore but that is an entirely different story. So Dave grabs the SS Yoke bar and sets up his mono and box...
We did a warm-up rep with a plate, added 5 chains per side for a rep, added 5 more chains per side for a rep and then Dave says to add 3 plates per side. Now we have 4 plates per side and 10 chains per side. Dave said we are are going to do 5 reps, strip 1 plate, 10 reps, strip 1 plate and then 15 reps for 1 drop set. At first, I thought how bad could this be but then Dave did his set....I'm not entirely sure how many reps he did or with what weights but it was not what was planned. He was gassed and couldn't breathe, cut his thumb badly enough there was blood all over the bar, the plates, the box, and the floor and his heart rate was at some crazy level. After things calmed down a bit he says "your up". The plates were put back on the bar and I tried to focus on what I needed to do....
The first set went just fine...5 reps with 4 plates per side and 10 chains. A plate was stripped and I started my set of 10 reps. I got to about 6 and realized I couldn't breathe very well anymore and by the 10th rep, I just wanted to quit. I took a few extra seconds to breathe while the next plate was stripped and unracked it to begin my set of 15...I did 2 and totally count not breathe...I called for the rack and Dave is yelling at me to just take my belt off and go....I dropped the belt and was able to breathe better but still not what I would consider good enough but under the bar I went. I somehow finished the remaining reps but when it was finished I was completely worthless. I was dry heaving, dizzy, confused and my head was pounding. This state of being continued for about 10 minutes until I was able to collect myself.
Now I'm not sure if Dave really intended to do that drop set or if he just set me up to watch me flounder and regret talking shit but even though I did all the reps and he didn't, he won. I got chess moved.
