Block 1, Week 7, Day 3 - Events @ the Unit

I deloaded this past week and today finishes up the current block of my programming, but I am not deloading events.  I may occasionally go lighter before a very big comp, but generally if I'm taking the time to setup and cleanup events, I want to do some work.

Embarrassingly, I have committed a faux pas that is hopefully just SOP for heading into a contest.  I strained my left calf jogging a mile to warm up to stretch on Wednesday of this past week.  It was of course right at the end only about a couple hundred feet from finishing up the distance.  This pissed me off and worried me about my ability to be competitive at my upcoming competition at Brute.  However, I most definitely have the knowledge and skills to rehab myself and sustaining some sort of minor injury or illness is pretty much par for the course heading into a competition.  Whether blistering the skin off my hands, getting the flu, straining a calf, breaking a toe, spraining my wrist, shoulder, elbow, back, etc or other similar stupidity, this has happened frequently to me during my 13 years of training and competing in strongman.  So I talked myself down and am moving forward with training making adjustments as needed.  Today I just wanted to test out some events and see what felt limited.

Yoke

100'x250

100'x450

100'x540

100'x630

100'x680 - This was my best run and none of them really bothered my calf, but it was getting close at the end, which is why I stopped where I did.

Zercher Carry

100'x450 - L calf started to hurt about halfway through.

100'x250 - I wrapped a red elitefts floss band around my calf for this run and it seemed to help a little.  That, and doing 200 less pounds.

100'x300 - Upped the weight and used the big blue anaconda elitefts floss band and that seemed to help a lot more.  I didn't want to push it and make it worse after limping around for the last 2 days though, so that was good for today.

Keg Carry

I tried carrying the 210 back and forth and it didn't seem to bother my calf much, but I did not try to load it since that would be a lot on my calf that would almost certainly bother it at this point in fixing it.

Prowler

100'xprowler +140 backwards drag/100'xprowler+140 push - Both bothered my calf, push>drag

2x100'xprowler+50 - Push

4x100'xprowler+90 - Push

This is a weird calf strain that normal rehab stuff like calf raises does not bother at all, just certain points in my stride while walking and all forms of prowling.  So looks like prowler will be my main rehab tool.
