Block 12, Wave 2 - Throws & Events @ Iron Strong CF

I took Saturday off from training because my girlfriend and I went across the bridge for the wedding of my friend, former training partner, and Meat Head Dream Team member, Mark Alexander, on Friday morning and didn't get back home until after 1AM on Saturday.  Mark and his new wife Marie had what I consider a great wedding - classy, simple, and low key, but with enough choices made and consideration for the guests to not just be a generic event.  Also, and this was big for me - the weather was nice enough that I didn't sweat through all my nice clothes during the outdoor ceremony and we were assigned to a table directly in front of one of the AC units so I stayed cool inside as well.  I considered training Sat afternoon, but ended up smoking a brisket instead since we had dinner plans for Sunday (tonight), the last day before I start summer semester.  So I trained some throws and some strongman and learned a little along the way.

Light Weight For Distance

10x1x28

I was much more consistent today than the first time I did this as well as throwing a few feet further, though still for dog dookie distance.  I happened to look down at my hand after my 10th throw and realized I had made a tactical error.  I had ripped the skin off the middle part of my pinky finger.  Note to self: HG athletes wear gloves for a reason so I need to get act together and try to learn from those who know more than me rather than doing everything the hard way.

Weight For Height (i.e. WOB sans B)

8x1ea x 28

I realized how and why I was getting out of position today and while I didn't do a good job of fixing it until the end, at least I know and made notes to remind and cue myself for next time.  Also, I need to get the standards set up again next time so I know how far I'm actually throwing.

Yoke

100' x 360

100' x 450

100' x 540

100' x 630

All these runs felt pretty good except for the fact that I was starting to get overheated from being out in the direct sunlight for 3+ hours during the hottest part of the day.  Not sure what my times were since I was training solo and didn't get video of anything since I was somewhat limited on time due to dinner plans.  Overall though, this was a good training day and I feel like I learned a lot and am continuing to make progress.  Now I just need to find my next strongman competition to train for that lines up with my school schedule.
