Shelley Prather Yates - 41 years old - IPA Battle of the Beast 2 - Gainesboro, Tenn. - 07/08/17
In the past 12 months, Shelly has competed in two different weight classes (198 and SHW), two different divisions (masters and open) and has achieved 3 Elite Pro Totals in her last 3 meets she has competed in (198 masters elite total, SHW masters elite total and now SHW Open Elite Total) and she came back from hernia surgery a few months back that took her several weeks to recover from! Fuck yeah!....
Shelly has been a PR destructive mission in her past 3 powerlifting meets. She has increased her squat 60 total pounds, she has increased her bench-press 30 total pounds, she has increased her deadlift 38 total pounds, she has increased her total 80 total pounds, she has accumulated 4 first place victories, set 20 new federation world records in the SPF and IPA Feds, achieved 2 masters elite totals (198 and SHW) and she has achieved 1 Pro Open Elite Total (SHW)! To say this 41 year old mother of two boys, wife of 18 years, full time middle school teacher of almost 20 years with a Masters Degree and is a National Board Certified Teacher - is an understatement!
Again, Success to me is weighed upon my top five:
1. Continued PR's - check
2. Staying healthy. No injuries from meet - check
3. Not bombing out - check
4. Having fun - check
5. Placing in the top three of weight class/division - check
