Dalton aka "Jose Cuervo" came to our gym almost 6 months. Redneck Tim works with him and vouched for Dalton. Tim said he thinks he may of found us a new young guy with great interest in powerlifting. Dalton walked in one day and introduced himself to me and we talked for around 45 minutes or so. I gave him my spill I give to each prospective new Team member (I will go over that in an article I am currently putting together) and he seemed receptive and eager. I then showed him around, he meet some Team Nebobarbell members, asked a few questions and I then gave him a start date to begin with us.

One thing I figured out quick about Dalton....don't underestimate the small package! This young man is a hard worker, he is dedicated, always on time, supportive and very receptive to my coaching. He truly wants to get better and he has some grit to him which I like. Dalton also adds to our already deep diverse group (we have 30 Team members). Dalton is Guatemalan and as far as I know the first Guatemalan powerlifter I know of thus far, which makes him well...a pioneer in some ways.

Dalton came to me a couple of months into his training and said he wanted to do a meet. Music to my ears! I told him that was great to hear and he would join the group of 6 lifters that will be doing the March 11th meet in Gatlinburg, Tenn. He was very excited about it and he trained hard this entire training cycle for the meet. He never missed a training session and also added some depth to our roster. At 165 pounds he would be again, our first to compete in that weight class as a male at Team Nebobarbell.

For his first meet he did awesome. He got a little nervous but who doesn't at a meet especially your first one. We are very proud of him and in a very short period of time increased his lifts significantly. Now that the meet is over and done and I have the entire crew from this past weekends meet resting up week this week, it will be time to put him into some off season training and get him prepared for his next training cycle for his next meet. Here is what Dalton did at his first powerlifting meet:

7 for 9 on attempts
Squat - 370 pounds
Bench - 242 pounds
Deadlift - 386 pounds
Total - 999 pounds
1st Place Mens raw full power - 165 weight class - Jr. Division
