Deadlifting @ Georgetown University

I headed across the bridge today to visit Georgetown University to see how they do things in their sports med department and to visit my friends in strength and conditioning.  I was down in the training room for the first half of the day observing their PT and ATs in action, which was very informative and I learned a lot from the experience.  After that I headed upstairs and hung out for a while with S&C Coach Dave Terry who was holding down the fort since the other coaches were away.  After Women's Lax finished up their lift we did some training in the main weight room of their amazing facility.  I was supposed to do my speed day for lower body today, but made a couple of adjustments to the plan because when you go to visit another man's house, your plan is secondary to his.  It worked out well though since Dave wanted to do some deads and he was on board with doing them with bands.  Our other option was conditioning and neither of us was much of a fan of that idea.

I lowered my weights a little from what I had planned since I was using more band tension that I have been and we worked up first and then dropped down instead of hitting the volume first and then working up at the end, but this whole things was awesome and it was good to have someone experienced who's opinion I trust watching me in addition to just reviewing my videos.  The videos here are the last 3 doubles we did working up before dropping back down.  My speed dropped off significantly and I helicoptered a little on the second rep of the set with 365, but overall I was happy with these.

That was all she wrote for today since Dave had to leave for an appointment and I wanted to try to get out of DC before traffic got ridiculous (which I failed miserably).  Head Coach Mike Hill got back in town while we were training and stopped by to "borrow" some equipment from Dave to use with Men's Basketball so I was glad I got to see him as well, even if only briefly.  It's always awesome to visit Gtown and hopefully I'll be stopping by more frequently in the future depending on where I am placed for my last 2 clinical affiliations for school this summer.

Addendum: This made my hamstrings more sore than they have been in several years.  The level of soreness I achieved is usually reserved for doing deadlift for reps in a strongman comp where I go to complete failure.  Not sure exactly why since the only big difference was the amount of band tension, but I love it.
