None us were able to train Friday due to us getting an early Christmas present of heavy snow here in the mountains. No reason to risk our lives for a training day. With that said this will just be chalked up as an off day and not be made up.
By the time Sunday rolled around (our bench day), roads were clear, the sun was out and the snow had melted just a fast as it came. Great news! We could all train today. We were also having some guest come and train with us today. Two of the guys that came are wanting to learn how to bench in their new bench shirts and the two girls were just kinda of jumping in with our Team and we worked on their technique as well.
Coaching in the sport is something I have a high passion for. I was very lucky early in my career to have met and hooked up with some very good power lifters her in NC that were more than happy to take me under their wings and show me the ropes. Each of these men I trained under were huge influences on me in regards to my training, how I conducted myself, powerlifting history, training philosophy, technique, styles and so forth. As I have my entire powerlifting career I take tid bits from every coach, lifter I have met along the way and add sprinkles here and sprinkles there to my tool box of powerlifting knowledge. No one person has it figured out nor does one program get it all perfect and the biggie I learned is: brace yourself....not everyone is the same nor is everyone effected the same by the same movements and or training cycles that are out there.
I have been very lucky to say the least. I have also been very lucky that over the years several folks have wanted to train with me and I could use each of them as guinea pigs (along with myself) with different techniques, movements, training philosophies and more. This has really helped me grow as a coach. I have in depth spread sheets of data (it would honestly blow your mind) on every lifter that has trained at my gym that trained there long enough for me to get hard data on. I have always said: numbers don't lie. So when I see my progress data on a lifter steadily rising then I know what we are doing works.
Bottom line here is when you see one of my lifters compete at a meet, there has been decades of knowledge poured into that person to get them to this point. Hours, days, weeks, months and years of training by that lifter that goes overlooked by everyday folks. Most people are just seeing, not really the finished project but a lifter still in training so to speak and continually improving.
Today each of these guys wanted to get a 2board max in their shirt. I believe we got both of them higher than their projected number by 20 to 50 pounds each! I love training lifters. I get as excited as they do. Oh by the way, I don't charge a dime for my training. I never will. the knowledge I had passed to me through the years was always free with the condition I give it back the same way I got it. Promise kept....
