It seems like every time you take a step forward life always seems to knock you backwards again. The thing is to get back up and keep pressing forward no matter what. I often used to think that by the time I was in my 40s reaching my 50s life would be so much simpler, easier and not have as much responsibility, but I was definitely wrong. When I was in my 20s and 30s I had no idea how easy I had it. But as I have gotten older I have taken on more responsibility, challenges and added depth to who I am. Challenges, mistakes and hard times unfortunately are the things that make you smarter than what you were without them. Hell with that being said I must be the smartest son of a bitch on the planet right now LOL.

Everything has been going well, we are still getting adjusted, still getting moved in and yes we still have a ton of boxes that are full. As we have been getting adjusted we have had to go through the gambit of things that you have to go through with moving into an older house. New electrical has to be done, new plumbing has to be installed, internet has to be ran, phone lines...you get the idea. So finally all these things are done.

Now comes the bad news. I called Duke energy to have them install us an LED outside light on the power pole near the house to turn on at night. Where we live at it is extremely dark, you cant see your hand in front of your face at night so having this light installed will brighten things up a bit so to speak. So a few days later I come home and notice that the light was installed which at the moment I thought this is awesome but I also noticed that there were deep tire tracks in the front yard that the Duke Energy truck had left behind. The relevance of this is that our septic tank is in the front yard. At first I didn't think much of this other than we had some really big tire ruts in our front yard. But about 4 days later our septic system backed up in the house. I was taking a shower that morning and the tub started filling up, the sinks in the bathroom started filling up and the toilet was making all kinds of racket. I got dried off and went in to the basement to take a look see at the plumbing and the main drain line was bursting at the seams. I knew right then that our septic system had backed up.

I called the Honey wagon to come to the house because I thought the sediment that had been in the septic tank from all the years of non usage had clogged the drain fields up and clogged the entire system up. When the guys dug up the septic tank they immediately found that the main septic drain line to the tank was broken and that the front of the septic tank had been crushed from the weight of the Duke energy truck. SO here we are 3 weeks in to our new house and something beyond our control caused an unknown disastrous situation to happen.

To make a long story short, after I went through all the hoops and hurdles, estimates, contractors, health dept involvement, and so on the claim that I filed with Duke Energy was accepted and they sent me a check immediately. In hind sight this was probably not a bad thing, the septic tank and lines are still the originals from the 1940s so in many ways this was a blessing in disguise. We will now be receiving a 21 century septic system and tank. All made from state of the art poly something and plastic. Today was the first day that they started on installing the new septic system so I am pretty excited that Duke Energy stepped up to take care of a situation that their driver caused.

This is life. Good then bad then good again. This was kinda one of those bad/goods combos that you get once in awhile. Today was a recovery day.

We are one week out from our meet we are running here in NC!
