Tonight I dropped down a band and took a grand again. Everything felt great, the speed was good and most importantly my pick up was excellent.
I'm going to say this again, my hat goes off to all the guys that have squatted a grand or more throughout the years. I don't care what anyone says, to me squatting a grand is a big fu$&ing deal. I understand that they are more common place now in the multiply world and that there is a hand full of raw guys that have accomplished this feat as well, but a grand is a grand and my hat goes off to each of you that have done this throughout your career.
As a bench only guy and a lifter that is now 45 years old, I find it funny that I am just now going after a goal like this. Squatting, deadlifting and being a full power lifter was never a primary focus early in my career. During those years I just wanted to bench 800 or more multiply and bench in the 500's raw. But now in the twilight of my career I have a new goal....to squat 1,000 pounds.
I may or may not accomplish this feat, but I will do everything in my power to do so. I have set my sights on this the past few years and it is a bucket list that I want to obtain before I am done.
Who knows, maybe I will inspire tons of has been bench only and master's lifters to obtain the same goal some day. Hopefully they won't wait as long as I did to go after something of this magnitude with 200,000 miles of lifting on your body. Sure would have made it easier to have done this years back. But here I am focused, determined and with my sights set with 1,000 pounds on my back at a meet with at least two white lights.
Only time will tell, but here is the foundation that I am laying now to do what I can to get it....
