6/30 - Heavy Bench Press

Ventured up north to my old stomping grounds, Lightning Fitness, for a workout. I used to train at Lightning daily when I was a student at UConn, but now I live about 90 mins south and can't get up there as much as I'd like to. Every time I'm able to get a session in there I try to take it. On top of being one of the most well equipped gyms in the entire country (not just Connecticut), the competitive atmosphere there is contagious and really pushes me to go all in on the day's training session. Today was no different.

Bench Press
After warmups
385x1
440x1
465x1

I really could not be more pleased with the bat speed of the 465. Bench is moving in the right direction.

Bench Press w/ Black Mad Dog Slingshot
485x2
500x2
520x2
520x2

I forgot my gym bag that has my Mad Dog Slingshot back at my home gym (Gleason's Performance Training in Derby, CT), so I had to borrow one from a member at Lightning. It was a size too big for me, so I just wore the Sling Shot a little lower than I typically do. It felt a little weird, but I was still able to get the work I needed to get done.

Incline Bench Press w/ Football Bar (medium grip)
275x4
295x4
295x4
305x4

Thick Rope Pushdowns superset w/ TRX Tricep Extensions
4 sets 20 reps on Pushdowns into BWxfailure on the extensions, just to squeeze whatever life was left in them out of there.

On a side note, I need to step my game up in terms of focusing on increasing my bodyweight. My bodyweight has taken a nose dive during the past few weeks down to 230 lbs from 236 lbs. Not sure what's behind it, as I've been steadily increasing my macronutrients on a weekly basis. Maybe it's stress related due to taking on more hours at work and awaiting the results of an important examination for my future career in firefighting? Who knows. I guess this is just my body crying out for more cookies and ice cream before bed, and I will gladly oblige.
