I have a few "older" people that train in my program. One fella in particular is 79 years old and is a total savage. Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, super smart and wickedly wise and has a sparkling sense of humor.

We like to chat when his training is done for the day and we will talk about a wide range of things from stuff I have no clue about to the world of Strength and Conditioning.

Today my friend articulated what I have been saying for decades, "Make a weakness strong and you GET STRONGER".

It's such common sense, yet we still don't do it.

My friend asked, "why is it that we don't do those things?"

Simple, I told him. We do the things we're good at. We shy away from the things that we suck at.

We suck at it because WE DON'T DO THEM! It's a vicious cycle.

So we commiserate as to why we don't make any improvements. We check our techniques, we find our weaknesses and we acknowledge that "yup, I'm not good because of this..." and then we do absolutely NOTHING because we hate those accessory exercises because they are so difficult for us to do regardless of how GOOD they could make us.

So here's a quick fix for this issue. Fuck YOU, do the shit you hate to do, and make it a strength. If you really suck at it, then do more of it and more often until you don't suck at it anymore.

You can still do all those groovy things that make you feel good about yourself. No one will deny you of your moments of glory. But suck it up, Buttercup. Unsuck yourself and get to those IMPORTANT items.

Because there will come a time, according to my 79-year-old friend, that you have neglected to do those important items, you won't be ABLE to do them at all!

He doesn't wait.

I don't wait.

YOU SHOULDN'T WAIT either!
