I always wanted to play linebacker in the NFL, but due to genetics, my physical size is about 5'x5', so that just wasn't going to happen. I've always been pretty darn quick with a respectable 40 time and I am fairly strong for a charging Rhinoceros. But that damn height/weight thing has always been a thorn in my side.

Right about that time, I realized I wasn't going to be a 6'6" GOD...I decided to have a work ethic, unlike anyone I knew.

I became enamored with the process of THE PREPPING for a sports season.

I figured if I wasn't going to win, you would have to BEAT me. To beat me, your tongue is going to hang out. I can live with getting beat, BUT QUITTING? No fucking way on earth! NOT now; NOT EVER. To get me to stop, you'll have to KILL me, and that sniper you hire better be good.

That philosophy has carried over into my Coaching. I want the people that I train to have that same mentality.

For the past couple of days, I have used our 4 Rep Max as an example. As we got closer to that max, many would just say, "No", that they didn't have it, and shake their heads as if it were a bad thing that the weights won.

Duh...The weights are designed to win. Hell, they have ALWAYS kicked my ass. I am 0 and a bajillion v. the weight, but I DON'T QUIT!

Even if it were CLOSE and the lifter was shaking and straining hard, IF they got the 4th rep, I made them go up!!! You have to go until you can't get four. Simple

The difficult part was making that mental switch from "Oh shit, the weight is fucking heavy and it's kicking my ass so, I'll quit" into Straining every ounce out of the set and being ok that you got to a number and it was only 3 or less.

It's OK to get beat. It is a SIN to quit.
