Monster Garage Gym/Maroscher Coaching Log: By MGG owner, 2-Time WPC World Powerlifting Champion, Eric Maroscher. (Log number XXXVII).

As we enter the second week of training at MGG 4.0, we have successfully filled the 5K sqft of warehouse with 85,000LBS of weights and equipment from MGG 3.0, and now we are starting to MONSTERIZE it in addition to bolting down our equipment and laying some carpet down for the three monolifts go to on, (as that is what you find at the meets and we want to replicate what meets have when we train). All this moving and such while the team continues to train. As you watch the training footage, pls excuse our mess as we continue to make MGG 4.0 our new, training fortress of solitude.

This coaching video log features two Monsters, Dustin and Justin training back strength. On this night, deadlift night, both of these 275LB RAW lifters are training their back but in two vastly different ways. Both members of the team train and compete RAW, both pull in the 700’s. On this day, Dustin is pulling off a deficit with mini-bands plus straight weight for sets of 2 reps with the time in-between sets only being the time after the guys in his group finish their rotation. As Dustin is 6'4" tall, deficit pulling is especially a challenge for him. Justin, having pulled heavy last week is hitting the Atlas Stones as a contrast to his last several weeks of straight deadlifting. Both do supplemental work after their main lifts on this night. The accompanying video will highlight their main movements. Feel free to try either of these training methods for overall back strength.

Justin’s Log:
We make our own stones at the MGG so the weight of them is a little different. I warmed up with doubles of the 140 stones up to the 240. Then went triples with 275, 310, 310, and back down to the 275LB stone. Then I went 3 burnout sets of pull-ups followed by a superset of db bicep curls, db rows, and lat pulls all 4 sets of 10. The 310LB stones are custom made of iron ore concrete and they are made with a 175LB mold for the shorter guys who can’t get their arms around the standard size 335LB stone. We talk about that stone here: https://www.elitefts.com/education/training/bodybuilding/monster-garage-gym-ten-pounds-of-sh-in-a-five-pound-bag/
Dustin’s Log:
Currently I am training for the UPA IL State meet which will be held on Sept. 26th. Today I did: 1 ¼" deficit deadlift for 5 sets of 2 with EliteFTS red mini bands. EliteFTS average band pull through 4 sets of 10. Ab pull down (100#) 3 sets of 20, neutral grip shrugs 3 sets of 10 at 385 3sec pause.
