It is also great for wrecking the world of IFBB Pro Bodybuilders like Ken Jackson.

20 Second Rest-Pause Set With elitefts Monster Mondo Hack Squat Machine The goal here is for the entire set to be less than 20 reps but to hit failure 4x throughout the set. As you see here, Ken Jackson gets six reps on the first round, four on the second, three on the third, and five on the last.

One of the biggest mistakes I see with this type of training is breathing. This impacts the set in several ways. First, if you can’t breathe, you won’t be able to get the reps. Second, you need oxygen for the muscles to work - when this is cut off, or failure will come sooner than later.

With training like this, you have to find a balance of staying tight but still breathing. The best way to do this is to set your breathing pattern on the first rep and maintain it for the entire set (the best you can).   This is in contrast to keeping your air to stay tight for the first 2-3-4 reps, as you would generally see on high effort sets of 6-8 reps. With this type of challenge set, you need to remember its a set of 20 reps - not 6-8.

Either way, this is a hell of a Set and great work from Ken.   This would be something you would do maybe once a week if you are a bodybuilder and for ONE set after warm-ups.   If you are a Powerlifter, this will serve no purpose, except for off-season hypertrophy work only.

The reverse bands are to take the stress off the knees at the bottom of the set.   If you speak to many veteran lifters, Hack Squats play hell on their knees. This is because of the footplates all other machines use. We created ours with an adjustable base and reverse band pegs for this reason. We also created this with an ultra-wide platform for an athletic stance as well as a wide Powerlifting squat stance.

For the Powerlifter, this becomes a great training tool (wide stance) because you have to flair more (working more ab and adductors) because the pad will not allow you to sit back.

Other features; the low handles to do old school hack squats, band pegs on the bottom, and it’s built like a tank.

The machine you see in this video is close to 15 years old and gets used heavily and often.   For more info - click the image of the hack squat above
