There are so many discussions now about the most effective way to train. It can get overwhelming. One thing I have known over the years is that if you want to make improvements, you will have to progressively move more weight.

However, if you complete a main compound lift first like a bench press and you progressively add volume to it aren't you inherently making your assistance work more difficult by preexhausting those muscles? If that's the case then do you have to regulalry increase assistance volume? In my experience, you can't constantly increase everything.

I never suffer complete paralysis of analysis with training. The main goal is always to make improvements on the main lift of the day. Assistance is where I need to remember the sage words of one Mr. Jim Wendler "Don't major in the minors."
