Calling yourself "Coach" is like giving yourself a nickname.  You simply DON'T DO IT!

"Coach" is a title that is reserved for only the BEST kind of teacher or Mentor.

Very few people do I call  "Coach".   Perhaps it's my age that there aren't many around anymore, and last night I got word of yet another of MY "Coaches" passing away.

Coach Ken Lynn wasn't even on my own sideline, yet he impacted much of the way I do things to this day.

I haven't spoken to Coach in some time and it is now one of those things I deeply regret.  (Take the time to talk or write to someone when you THINK about them.  Don't wait)  But I had gotten word from his daughter, whom I remained friends with since high school that Coach Lynn past away from Cancer!  I have told you how much I hate cancer, right?

Anyway, Ken Lynn had influenced me in too many ways to list here or take the time without this post becoming a journal.

But to highlight a few things he did that no one realizes but me (and him) were as much a role model if not more than my OWN father.

He taught me how to be gracious both in Winning AND Losing.

He taught me dignity on and off the field of play.

He taught me to do for others without the expectation of anything in return.

He taught me to communicate my teachings in a manner that could be understood from Ph.D's to the simplest of minds.

He taught me HUMILITY.  More than once did he or his TEAMS kick my ass.

Be honest!  With each other and more importantly YOURSELF!

Most importantly he taught me how to LOVE all the players on the team.  You didn't have to agree with all of them, but you did have to love them.

God has a new Coach on his staff and those of you that know me...Know Coach Ken Lynn too now.

R.I.P. Sir!
