During this first phase of training, there is always some hem and hawing. It's so basic, that it tends to be almost "boring". I know that! But, it is so important to dial in the technique that we will be using and to control the tempo of each rep that I don't mind being boring.
My teams NEED to do this so we can build SLOWLY upon this ground work.
Here's a little trick my Mom would use on me. Talk about Behavior Modification...
She would twice a week cook canned peas. I'm not sure they even make those anymore, but I HATED canned peas. I can still taste the after taste just mentioning them. She would make them regardless. We couldn't afford fresh all the time, but she knew the value of peas.
My mom also knew I LOVED apple pie. She would bake an apple pie on the same nights that she served those damn peas and say, "if you want the apple pie, you have to eat ALL of your peas".
Wise women that she was, I would eat those peas FIRST and FAST! I barely tasted them as they hit my pallet and were swallowed at light speed.
Why? The reward for eating those gag worthy dots was that scrumptious apple pie.
Applied today? Do the shit you know you should do, but HATE doing first so you can get to the stuff you will do at any cost next!
You then will be building upon a weakness that you have and it will become a strength in time!
