Focus on the behaviors that lead to the outcomes you want.
Last week, I sat down with Phil Matusz @p_matusz to record the @elitefts Table Talk Podcast. While I learn things from my guests while we are recording, I learn even more in the after-show conversations.
This isn’t because we have material to hide, it’s because when we are off the air we can speak freely with questions WE have for each other. These are specific and targeted toward our work in the gym or office.
The structure he works under (Ohio State Football) is vastly different than the structure I work within (elitefts.com, Inc). There are many similarities and even more differences.
I like to look at the differences and see how I can personally improve or how we can improve our systems. There is a lot I can write on this and many things I’ll slowly begin to implement. However, I believe my biggest take away can apply to everyone.
Focus: This is one of our core values at elitefts. When looking deeper at this, the focus can’t be about ourselves but must be on the desired outcome. For example, I can do all the reading and continued education I want but if it’s not going to help get to the desired outcome, it’s a waste of time. Behaviors need to stack and build, stack and build, and stack and build with the intention being on the desired outcome. Wrong behaviors equal a less than optimal outcome. The right behaviors some of the time MIGHT lead to some of the outcome. The right behaviors all the time should be the standard.
This sounds simple but the application isn’t that easy as ego, distractions, time on the wrong work, time not spent getting better at your craft, drama and excuses pull us away from doing things that focus on what needs and had to be done.
To start, for myself, I need to increase my self-awareness and discipline to start thinking this way the all of the time instead of only when I’m doing my strategic planning, reviewing reports and trying to figure out how to remove roadblocks.
Hopefully, you can pull something from this blind spot I have (had) to help make your training, business, job, family, and/or life better.
