As a coach and a Dad...I am very happy to say that my son is getting influenced by some really great roll models.
We lost to the top seed L.A. Kings in the second overtime shootout and didn't advance to the Championship Game last weekend. It was a ONE Second heartbreaker.
I shared the Head Coaches words yesterday and here is the Assistant Coaches view:
Blazers 06,
Hopefully everyone has made it home safe and had time to consider the weekend. I'm grateful for the time spent with all the kids and the path we shared together. Thanks for being there. I know the last game was a heartbreaker, so I wanted to offer a coach's perspective
... A hockey game is like a tree. Some are huge, dynamic, and filled with life. Some are gnarled and twisted, a representation of the battle to survive.
Every tree, like every game, is different and has meaning. Every game shapes our outlook on life. Sometimes the strongest and most promising trees are struck down by lightning and crash to the ground in flames.
We had one of these on Sunday.
When we encounter a tree like this it is helpful to remember that there is a whole forrest of trees ahead of us and many trees behind us. The tallest and most beautiful trees help us to grow our joy, passion, and confidence. The gnarled trees teach us perseverance, durability, and ambition.
We need all of these trees. We are defined by our path through this forrest.
Be grateful for every step. The team that battled and cried together on Sunday shared a moment that will make each of them more determined to succeed.
Hopefully, these hockey lessons will translate to life.
As you return to your clubs and prepare for tryouts remember that everyone who plays hockey is a friend and every game, win or lose, is a gift.
Let your kids know you're proud of every step they take.
Good luck in tryouts!!
