I have an Apple computer. It has a blue tooth keyboard that I've been using for 5 or 6 years. Today, I find out that I have no use of the delete button or the space bar. I write a run on sentence stating the fact and the warped people I know and enjoy play me like a single note on the piano.
Thank goodness for a 10 year old tech wiz that plays sports. Hunter came home from Elementary school and set me up with a new keyboard and mouse.
I am BACK to making mistakes and erasing them. Separating words like a surgeon does flesh.
Today's conversation with regard to training was, "what should I do while on vacation?"
I responded with...BE on vacation! Enjoy yourself!
While I still have a small population of "athletes" that are preparing for upcoming sport seasons, my populace is more of the person that wants to "get into shape, look good naked, feel good, and not be a fat shit".
I like them! They pay the bills and don't feel as if I should pay THEM because they have graced my gym and have broken a few pieces of my equipment.
Upon evaluating what my program offers, I explained that my program was about the ACQUISITION of strength (Thanks Vinny) NOT the DEMONSTRATION of it.
We gather the strength and conditioning by a variation of the Conjugate training method (aka Westside but we're not Westside) Mountain Dog, (I'm not John Meadows) and bits and pieces of a lot of programs.
I mix them into a blender and come up with a yearly plan.
It becomes "customized" as a participant nears an event, like a vacation, upcoming season of sport or other.
The methodology that I've come up with years ago is simple...Spinal stability, hip mobility and schooling in the five primal moves before loading, or in laymen term...Squat until you puke.
Since I reserve the DEMONSTRATION of strength for the event, I have less injuries from training or down time.
Training can and has occurred on a five or six day basis, 50ish weeks a year, without incident.
Slow progressive overload. Time under tension!
When the person goes on vacation or is forced into suspending the training, ITS NO BIG DEAL. You aren't going to miss out! (Except for the exceptional conversations and chipping that takes place daily)
"I feel guilty about missing" "I worry that I will be missing out"
I retorted, Guilt and worry are two USELESS emotions.
Has either one changed the outcome? NO!
Only product of guilt and worry is hypertension! Geesh...SHAKA!
Without the built in rest, what do you think happens?
I used the callouses on my hand as the example.
I have AWFUL looking hands that are battle worn and calloused.
My wife often suspends my back rubs until I use one of those rocks on them to cut the hardness away.
I get those callouses by HARD WORK. That tears them up. What would happen if I never allowed for the healing of them or rest???
Right! I would wear the hands down to a point of them being rendered USELESS!
It's the down time that they heal!
I don't feel bad not using them when they are healing. I can always do something else, or just plain kick back and go to the beach!!!
After a long lecture, it was time to giddy up and get my own training done.
Here's what that looked like:
Suspended knees to elbows:
1x20
1x18
1x16
1x14
1x12
Water intake 32 oz.
Went home and broke my keyboard, took a nap and now typing like a piano player.
