I learned a long tine ago not to discuss "touchy" issues on my Coaching Log. My log is a part of Team EliteFTS and I don't OWN EliteFTS. Dave Tate does.
However this Coaching point comes with a bit of politics to make the point.
Most of my political beliefs are straight down the middle. I don't lean too far to the left, nor do I lean too far to the right.
I was having a conversation with a "True Left Winger" and there are many here in California. We were discussing the closing of the government as well as the building of the "Wall".
My friend told me his opinion and how it made him FEEL.
I didn't question his feelings, nor did I express my own take on the issues. I simply extended the question, "What would YOU do to resolve the issue?"
Again, I got a detailed dissertation about the way it made him FEEL.
Again, I asked..."but what do you think we should DO, to resolve the issues?"
The "feels" came about again. I listened intently to the answer he was giving me.
I then posed this, "May I ask you another question?" and then supplied another angle to the non answered question.
I personally make it a point to answer questions as directly as I can (without sounding like a douchebag). Which to me if I were asked what I asked this fellow, the answer would have been a simple YES or NO! "Can I ask you another question?" was my request. I didn't care for the long drawn out answer I got...YET.
What am I getting at?
I think most people don't listen to the questions, or the statements completely and without interruptions. I think people don't listen at all. I believe that listening to the other person has been replaced with HEARING while we are searching our own IDEAS to retort, REGARDLESS of the question/statement.

Listen with the intent to be INFORMED, instead of HEARING to RESPOND.
