I have seen this question hotly contested all over social media. I'm starting to think it's right up there with religion, politics, and the great sumo versus conventional deadlifting debate.

Let me ask you all a few questions. Do you think powerlifting is a sport? If someone else does not think it is a sport would it preclude you from participating? Better yet, who cares?

Years ago I allowed myself to get dragged into whether bench only lifters were powerlifters. I was going back and forth with people and got really heated. Ironically, I spent the beginning of my lifting tenure as a full meet lifter before I injured my back (I have since returned to compete in a full meet again). So why I let that rent space in my head is beyond me.

I love powerlifting. Chances are if you are reading this, you do as well. Here's my recommendation to you, before you allow yourself to get sucked into the stupidity of a social media snit, channel that energy elsewhere. You'd be far better off spending that time making yourself a better powerlifter.

So instead of getting into an argument about something completely irrelevant, go do something positive instead. I highly recommend contrast showers, some soft tissue work, an extra band workout, a little stretching, go for a walk, drag the sled, or go pet a puppy. You'll definitely feel better than letting some dolt into your head.
