Interesting Friday. I had to have Osseous Surgery today on my lower jaw (smack in the middle of the gums) this morning at 8:00AM I actually JUST got home.
It's kind of involved, not that I would know, because they knock you clean out for it.
What seemed like a quick cat nap has now gotten me a lower gum plate of stitches and a numb jaw. I'm ok with that. My concern is when the numb heads out to sea, they gave me some pretty potent pain medication, so I'm wondering what the afternoon and evening is going to entail. Oh how I love the anticipation.
I had asked the Doctor, how bad it was going to be, and IF I was going to be in any condition to squat tomorrow. He smiled and asked, "If I told you not to, would you listen?" Pondering that question, I just smiled at him.
The peanut butter Jamba Juice I just quaffed down was tasty and the letters I'm typing don't seem to be moving around too much, so I'm planning on being "Good to Go!"
Prior to that, April and I were discussing in the car her seminar she attended for work. They brought in a consultant group to education some of the "top leadership" at her company.
What it boiled down was the four personalities that Florence Littnineur wrote about in her book "Personality Plus". There are other tests and programs but it boils down to the same thing. There are four basic personalities and people will come in one, two, three or all four traits and best ways to deal with them. They make you identify yourself and then you have some fun discussing the psychology behind what makes that person "tick".
Then the subject turned to how different things MOTIVATE a person.
Here's where I disagreed. THINGS don't motivate people. Motivation comes from ONE of TWO places ONLY!
Pain or Pleasure is what motivates a person to MOVE beyond where they are. Example; I saw a photo of myself without the normal "sucking it in", and the shot made me embarrassed of a girthy combat chassis. So...I made a decision to CHANGE IT! I've focused with laser like precision on MY weakness and have addressed it. It's not hard to do, when you are committed to the goal.
My wife argued that Music motivates her. I disagreed! Music EXCITES you. A new bathing suit EXCITES you, but you won't make big lifestyle changes because you are motivated by Kid Rock or a tiny bikini. Those are excitations that will keep you motivated to take ACTION.
Caffeine is an EXCITER! It doesn't motivate.
Seeing someone that you admire doing the same thing you are EXCITES, but it does NOT motivate.
The PAIN of not having or the continuation of a bad habit that will lead to greater pain will motivate.
A person of excess weight, when told he will DIE if he doesn't lose the weight becomes MOTIVATED to lose the weight.
People wanting to LOOK a certain way for a Wedding, a Vacation, or other things of that nature are MOTIVATED to action.
The story goes like this:
A man passes a dog howling on the front porch of a house. The man asks the owner of the dog..."Why does he howl like that?"
The owner replies, "he's moaning 'cause he's laying on a nail".
The passer by asks..."why doesn't he move?"
To which the owner NAILS it..."he doesn't move cause I suppose it doesn't HURT him bad enough".
So unless it doesn't HURT bad enough to change, or your WANT is dramatic as it should be, then (here we go...yesterday's foreshadow) Status Quo will suffice. Status quo is like standing in the middle of the road. Neither left or right, you lend yourself to becoming a target rich environment for the next big thing to run you over!
Today I was in a hurry to get a session in but I certainly didn't have time for what I had everyone else do.
I reverted back to the OLD Ellington Darden and Arthur Jones method of training.
Only I did TWO sets of each exercise to failure. (that was when FORM broke down) You want to work on your head game, then give this a shot. I only started counting the reps AFTER the pain began. Through the fog in my head right now, I'll recreate the numbers...maybe.
Suspended Knees to Elbow: 1x36; 1x22
4 way Neck: Frontx22; Left sidex27; Right side x 27; Rear x 33 with 7 plates
SSB Yoke Bar Shrugs: 4 sets x 23 reps, 20 reps, 17 reps then 12 x 315
Ab Rollout Wheel: 1st set of 26 reps...2nd set x 24 reps
BB Curl: 1 set of 27 reps 2 set of 19 reps
45 degree Back Extension: 1st set of 54 reps; 2nd set of 44 reps
Axl Fat Bar Reverse Grip Curl: 1st set=28 reps 2nd set=15
Zig Zag Bar Tricep Cable Push down: 1 st set=30 reps w/120 lbs 2nd set=32 reps
Then April rolled up and told me it was time to go get my mouth assaulted.
I think I'm going to do this type of training for a couple weeks. I forgot how mind bending it is. Focused and Intense. PLUS it's real fast.
