Here are some of the random thoughts that buzz around in my head, full of grammar errors, missed words, and typos. Yep, that's pretty much how it all sounds in my head as well.
Here goes,
My 12 year old son should be coaching Baseball in the minor leagues!
Why?
Here's why. He started playing T-ball 6 years ago so right now he has 6 years of "on the field baseball experience"
If you are in the sport of Powerlifting or Bodybuilding this is enough right?
Wait!
This is twice as much as need to coach others to get ready for meets and shows. Now, this is fucked up right?
.... whoa...... not a fair comparison because many of the three year experts played around in the gym for years before they competed.
OK, I get that but my son's been playing around outside since he could walk, hell, he was doing that when he could only crawl. He has also been throwing shit since he could first grasp his bottle. I remember him tossing food, pacifier, and all kinds of shit across the kitchen while still in a high chair.
The fact is he is not even playing in Jr High yet. He is still a Pee Wee player based on his 6 years of experience.
I wounder if his keeps playing all the way through high school (12 years total) if that would be enough to get him the Head Baseball Coach at his High School?
Interesting isn't it?
We all know that would not get him a job coaching Baseball anywhere.
Why is it that a Lifter with only Pee Wee experience (3 years) feels they can coach others? Kinda fucked up if you look at it this way isn't it.
BUT WAIT, To coach Pee Wee all you need to do is Volunteer. Damn, there goes my entire rant.
Shit...
But to be a high school coach you need to have THIS.
* some type of degree
* experience coaching at lower levels
* certification
* CPR
This is to coach just beyond the Pee Wee level. Applied to Bodybuilding, Powerlifting and Performance Training this would mean to coach competitive lifters their should be basic education and experience teaching Pee Wee's how to lift weights. Basically personal training,
STOP...
In all sports outside of strength sports the athletes within those sports are still beginners in the weight room because most don't start weight training at all until High School so by the time they hit the College level they have 3-4 years Under The Bar of (usually) poorly coached experience. Two years less experience than my son has playing baseball with fairly good coaching experience.
See how twisted up this is starting to get because the hardest jobs to get strength training people ( Universities and Pro Levels) are the ones where those lifting are still Pee Wee's in the weight room but any Tom. Dick or Joe can train the most advanced Bodybuilders and Powerlifters as long as they convince them to buy into what they are selling.
I know there are many angles here and reasons why such as the Pro Athletes, while beginners in the weight room, are still the BEST at what they do and that there are many who are great Powerlifting and Bodybuilding coaches who have never competed and only been at it several years. While I will say this may be true it is rare. I am also aware of all of the other factors at play here. I've been around this block a few times going back decades. I have seen the bad, I've seen the ugly, I've seen the good and the great.
I will leave this post with this. I read many rants about how these shitty trainers suck and the dawn on the internet guru is killing the sports. I think many forget one very important thing.
Getting clients for ANYTHING is and will always be the same as it's always been with the best marketing source being referrals.
Those you see pimping and promoting the most and the hardest are doing so because they DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH CLIENTS to make a living from. When you see this pimping ALL THE TIME is also shows they are not keeping the clients they get.
The best coaches and trainers I know rarely if even need to promote or advertise. Their clients and/or content they put out does that for them. Just because you see their "marketing" doesn't mean they actually have a shit ton of clients. All the bitching and crying about this is wasted effort and energy about nothing - because if you are great at what you do - they are not taking business from you at all. If anything they are setting business up for you because some fool might hire them due to lower cost, find they suck, and then look for someone who really knows what they are doing but this time they won't fall for the Instagram Flier. They will ask other people they know who do work with great coaches, you know, your clients.
Told ya, just some of the random shit that runs though my head that really doesn't mean anything other than I really need to get back to work.
