Some thoughts on the sport we love and some recognition for deserving people to follow.

TeamTPS lifted at the RPS NH/Vt. State Championships in New Hampshire two weeks ago and I wanted to take a minute and share it with all of you.

The meet was hosted by Jamie and Megan Matta and wow do they consistently run a great meet.

The weekend started off with us having no one in the morning session and me having not much to do, so I helped Jamie and Megan out for a bit doing whatever was needed.

Normal stuff:

  • Running the table for bathroom breaks
  • Fixing broken judge lights
  • Judging for bathroom breaks
  • You know, normal stuff

Why not sleep in and just go to the meet when my lifters were there?

That's not how meets run. You have to give back to the sport so it can thrive.

The afternoon came quick and it was time to work, not really.

Candace, Matt and Russ are the ones who make this magic happen.

They work tirelessly to ensure that all of our lifters are handled properly  and prepared properly. I just do what they tell me.

So, I've got to say thank you to my TEAM of coaches.

I just write the TPS Method for Powerlifting programs they follow.

Without a STRONG and dedicated crew like this I'd be nowhere, so thanks.

We had the ladies lifting in the PM session and the men on Sunday.

This log is about the ladies.

More thoughts:

I've said it before, this is an individual sport, but a solid TEAM makes it better.

I can't be more grateful for mine.

At the meet, be mindful of everyone else there.

It's your meet, but it is someone else's too. Don't be a douche.

I saw some exceptional sportsmanship,  and also some douchebaggery.

I'm not going to point out the specifics, but act in the manner that you want to be viewed in.

Remember, the judges, spotters and loaders are not there for the money.

Most don't get paid at all.

We do it for the love of the sport.

Yes, Jamie pays his staff but this is very unusual, and sitting in a folding chair for 14 hours is not really worth what you get paid.

We do it for the sport.

So, be nice.

And remember, judging is not personal.

If you got red lighted for depth on the squat, it is not because the judge is a dick.

It's because you squatted high.

That's all for this week.

Thanks for reading.
