This installment of the MONSTER GARAGE GYM/Maroscher Coaching Log features Top 50 ALL TIME American Bencher (in two weight classes, 181 & 198) Mike Strom.

The purpose of this log is to show you a few bench related movements that you might not have in your arsenal of training movements. Specifically this log features Mike training floor press with reverse EliteFTS average bands. Additionally, skull crushers with EliteFTS micro bands and chain extensions. Mike is currently benching 670LBS at a bdw of 193LBS and he is about 10 weeks out from the APF Senior Nationals. Mike was the 2014 Senior Nationals Best Lifter and he is looking to better his total and improve his place on the Top 50 ALL TIME American Bencher list in the process.

This training session included some experimentation with the supplemental movements. Mike is like the MacGyver of the MGG. He will put together a wide variety of exercises, some of which are his own creation, and try them out. In the experimentation process, some movements or combinations of movements end up in the trash, and others end up becoming a valued tool in his already complete training tool box. The point is, if you have a good foundation of basics and rock solid technique, you can add your own touch to a training program so it is tailored to your own specific needs. Every powerlifter is very different and thus we all have different movements that work for us better than movements that might work better for others.
