I love my text chain with Wendler and Rhodes. It’s filled with nonsense, debauchery, and some solid training advice. While James and I were lamenting our frailties and how sleeping can undo our already undone bodies, he shared the brilliant quote which has become the title of this log entry. “Some Guys Get Hurt In Military Combat. I Get Hurt Napping.”
Seriously, some people think training is so hardcore. Treading water for hours, double-timing it with full packs, and combat is hardcore. Lifting is a hobby. It’s one I happen to be super passionate about, but a hobby nonetheless.
Anyway, In our texts, I mentioned how I have to sleep in a reclined position to not feel wrecked in the morning. Jim said he had to alter his sleeping position as a result of his issues also. Rhodes shared how he has to sleep on his back with a pillow under his legs, but not under his head.
Wendler actually thought Rhodes slept face down, with his butt up in the air. There were a few more particulars Jim shared, but that would turn this little composition into an x-rated musing in a hurry.
It’s a sad state of affairs when sleeping is dangerous, but that is the life of a lot of older lifters. It’s a zero-sum game when you are in it long enough, but I wouldn’t give it up. It’s not just what I do, it’s part of who I am.
The takeaway from all this, don't take your sleeping position for granted. It could greatly effect your body.
