It doesn't matter if I teach the squat or the bench, the verbal cues are almost identical.

When squatting I let the lifter know that I'd like him/her to push the floor matting apart. "Increase the seam" by extending the knees. "Spread the floor and push the hips back like you're sitting on the toilet". "Pull the elbows under the bar to extend your thoracic back". "Drive through the HIPS!!!"

Those verbals are not unlike what I say for the bench. "Drive through the floor." Spread the bar in order to straighten the arms." "Belly UP!!!" "Drive through your HIPS!!!"

There is very little difference where the elbows are except for the external rotation of the shoulder for the squat v. the bench.

"Big Air!!!" is vital.

"Brace HARD!" keeps the kinetic chain rigid and unyielding.

"Squeeze the BAR HARD/Choke the mother fer"

However, while it seems like many cues (it is) Teaching requires only ONE per session.

I find the biggest issue and will lay into only that one in that training session.

Buddy Morris taught me that teaching ONE thing will yield about an 87% remembrance by an athlete.

Teach them TWO things and that number drops to 33%. Teach them THREE things? "Well, good luck with that."

The key thing is, that there is little difference when verbally cueing the Squat and the Bench, so get used to the repetitive candance of your voice on either day.
