Sometimes in your training career, you will suffer paralysis through analysis. You'll wonder if the program you are using is right. Sometimes you'll even take a step back. That's ok. Training never goes wasted.
As long as you are getting under a bar you are experiencing training volume. You are also working on form. Also, don't forget, you learn from failures as well as successes.
I am a firm believer in the accumulation of work. Whether that work is coming from barbells, dumbbells, machines, etc, you are doing something. So if you don't feel like you have everything lined up just right, don't worry, just do work!
