As we keep updating our 2018 @elitefts Strength Equipment line, I had to decide what to replace in the gym. One decision was either a double rack or another monolift.

 

This is why I went with the monolift over a giant rack.

 

When we do seminars, we teach in groups of 10-12. Anymore, it's too many to get enough reps in to help that much. If you use all racks, then you have to break the groups up by height, as adjusting bar height on a rack sucks and isn’t really an option. The issue here is you can have some using the bar and others using 405. Every time there is a weight change going down, you risk weights dropping on feet, big misloads, smashed fingers, Bars flipping and other crap like that. It’s best if people who are about the same strength train in the same group so there’s less weight change and less time between lifters.

 

With a mono, it’s simple to go up, down, in and out, and it’s fast. I can coach 10 people in a mono in a fraction of the time it takes in a rack. It’s also easier for groups to train, creating environments where people will spot each other as well as offer technical cues. You can also walk the weight out or not.

 

The 2018 rack we will bring to market is badass and would have been great to have. It would have been a disservice to those who train at s5, as well as those who will attend the seminars we do.

 

This is why I decided to have 5 monolifts instead of a giant rack with multiple stations. Coaching and safety were put first and ascetics second. No regrets... and, ya, I’m still going to try to find a way to fit the rack.
