Jaskulski Awarded DIII Regional Coach of Year
The College at Brockport Outdoor Track and Field men and women's teams are sending in total eight Golden Eagles to the Division III National Championships in Canton, NY at St. Lawrence University Thursday through Saturday led by recently crowned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Regional Men's Coach of the Year, Ed Jaskulski.
Jaskulski, also the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year, led the Golden Eagles to its highest national ranking in school history topping out at 10th in the country during the May 5th rankings post. The Brockport men have captured the SUNYAC Championship and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship and are eager to prove themselves as viable national competitors.
Six Golden Eagles men are set to represent Brockport during the national championships including the 4x100-meter relay team of Cameron Shaughnessy, Dorian Hayden, Samuel Taft and Zachary Brown. Taft also qualified for the 110- and 400-meter hurdles ranking 18th and ninth respectively.
Whitman Oehler-Marx, Darius Favors and Antoine Keels will also be representing Brockport in field events. Oehler-Marx has gotten stronger with each week that has passed as the outdoor season has progressed and currently ranks 11th nationally in the pole vault event with a less than one meter separating him from the nation's top height.
Favors exuded Herculean-like strength earlier this season in a moment of perfect execution sending the discus soaring through the sky 54.94 meters (180' 3") before it touched the ground on April 17. Favors toss ranks second in the nation. Keels has had a tremendous season in which he was named the SUNYAC Field Athlete of the Year thanks in large part to his shot putting abilities which he will put to the test in Canton.
Brockport will also be sending Marcy Merritt to nationals on the women's side. She ranks eighth in pole vault with a height of 3.77 meters, which is exactly half of one meter off the top height in the country.
