2016 has been a productive strongman season returning back to the sport. In June I took third place in the Open SHWW with United States Strongman. In September I won the HWW America's Strongest Master with Strongman Corporation. I would like to continue to make improvements and push my performance considerably for next year.
As of right now, I have no competition plans until next year. I am not sure what they will be but am using this down time to address some weaknesses, particularly 12" log and circus DB. Grip training will return as well.
From 11/26/16
With The Big Guy out of commission, The Boy asked me to go to the gym and spot for him. He was at the tail end of a mandated week minimum rest by us after state championship game. It's been a long season and rest was sorely overdue.
If you have not been following my log for the long haul, let me catch you up. The Boy has traditionally struggled with training with mom and being stronger than his fragile teen age ego, hasn't helped the cause. My approach the past year and a half or so is I am completely hands off with him. Any input or training comes from The Big Guy.
So you can imagine my excitement when he asked me to go to the gym with him. HECK YES! I played it super cool, pretended not to seem too excited and avoided any potential eye contact so he wouldn't see that glimmer of hope and joy dancing around and in a moment of poor judgment, decide to pull the plug. Down low. That was the name of the game and boy oh boy, did I work hard to play it cool.
It was bench day and I talked him into maxing since it's been a long time and football season was finally over. It was like everything I had to say or suggest was received with open arms and appreciation. No arguing, no resisting, just listening and accepting my thoughts.
It was so awesome and for sure one of my favorite days with him. Just an FYI....he hit a 15 lb PR! He listened and it was awesome to see the rewards for both of us. We also did some bench for reps competitions which was fun.
