Will be going over each lift and how I've transitioned in this first phase. With deadlift, a few takeaways so far.

My setup raw vs. geared

My setup raw: I have to set my feet an inch or two away from the bar. Reason: I have a hard time opening up my hips and loading up where I can get the most power to execute the lift (either my chest is too forward or my knees cave in). Everyone varies so some can set their hips at parallel and still be explosive off the ground. I am not one of those people. My raw setup needs to be like my geared setup (still that needs work).

Geard: I'm setting right up to the bar. It allows me to get in better position and have a stronger lockout (funny how that works). If you notice in some of the videos earlier on in training lockout is slow -- not taking full advantage of gear and still not trusting my hips. When I trained with Jabez, he spotted that. That tweak made a world of difference. I also went a bit wider with my stance.

My training session with Dave, he observed one shoulder was more forward than the other causing lack of tightness in my upper body. He suggested to grab the center before setting up to pull slack and get my shoulders and chest aligned with the bar. I am still playing with what to do. I didn't setup that way at the meet and there wasn't anything to worry about.

Another thing to point out, I couldn't deadlift passed 375ish and each attempt towards 400 looked like hammered dog shit. Technique went out the window. That could mean deadlift less or work with a certain percentage on heavy days (for singles and for reps).

So my takeaways are that there are more takeaways to be discovered. Stay tuned...
