Like usual, I made an abrupt and last minute decision concerning my competition plans. I will be competing in Northern Nevada's Strongest Man on August 13, 2016 in order to qualify for Master's Nationals in Vegas at the Olympia on September 16. In short, I changed my direction because of my love for grip and as a long time advocate to see the return to more grip inclusion in strongman. Northern Nevada's Strongest has max distance farmers and Master's Nats has an awesome farmer's type medley and frame hold for time. The events were calling me. In short, I am in love.

Rolling/Mobility

The whole family was in the gym training.  Somehow  the conversation switched to Magnus and his vert. In a blink of an eye the conversation morphed into bets that my standing vert wasn't even 15" followed by lots of laughter at my expense. Magnus started talking some trash that there was no way I could hit 20". When I couldn't even hit 20" I would walk away from the gym as a chump with my tail between my legs and head held in shame.  And faster than a speeding bullet, my ego stepped up to the plate.

The part I didn't tell him is fifty pounds ago I jumped over 20" without steps so I wasn't scared.  I also wasn't warmed up but I couldn't flinch from a challenge.  Now it wasn't pretty and according to the pics I wasn't even jumping straight or with any kind of grace, charm or technique.

After a couple warm up jumps I hit over 20" and of course ended the challenge with a whole lot of smack talk and busted egos. Of course Magnus is out jumping me by a ton but it's one of those small victories of outperforming his expectations for me. I did go a tad easy on him and decided to tuck these results away for harassment at a future time.

My stupid grip feat of the week was in fact stupid. I needed to get some good runs in on farmers but my grip was shot.
