Going into this meet, I had to keep in mind that this is no more than a warm up for Provincials/Nationals. I wanted to see how training is going, meet new people in the powerlifting community, and have fun.  I was really happy with the atmosphere at this meet, most of the competitors, volunteers, and coaches brought some good vibes, and I was really glad to be a part of this meet. I was hoping for a 400kg/880lb total today, but with some unexpected mishaps in the bench, it just wasn't in the cards. I finished with a 385kg/847lb total, which is still a PR for me by 10kg/22lbs. I won best female lifter with a 420 wilks score. I am especially glad I did this meet because there were some calls from the judge on bench that I was not expecting. I will be changing my training accordingly to give them pauses they're looking for.

Squat

Went about as well as possible! We had planned to finish with 315, but Goggins made the call after my first squat to switch my last to 308. My technique was a little off coming out of my third, I think it was because I was just excited that it was going up! I started pushing up through my chest instead of my upper back, but hey, it was still a good squat!
Squats really felt better than they have in any other meet I've done. I was really happy with my performance.

Bench

This was frustrating.. I had entered my opener as 92.5kg/203.5, but somewhere along the line it was entered into their computer as 82.5/181.5. The way the computer in the athlete area was set up, my name and attempts were cut off since I was the last in my flight so I wasn't able to catch the mistake until after I had taken the attempt and looked at the screen. I had three minutes to take my actual attempt after I caught the mess up. Mistakes happen, and I'd much rather it happen at a small meet than at Nationals. The takeaway here is that I need to learn proper KG plate loading so I can catch something like this sooner.
My second attempt was frustrating as well. I'm not sure what the judge was thinking on this one, but I held the bar at the top of the lift for what felt like an eternity all I was thinking was 'Are my elbows straight? I can't straighten my elbows anymore than this! Let's go.....' When I finally got the start command, again it felt like an eternity at the bottom before I got the press command. There was just not enough left in the tank to finish the press. When I talked to the judge after, he said 'The weight just looked too heavy for you'. My takeaway from this, train with longer pauses both at the top and bottom of the press.

Deadlift

Deadlifts went pretty well, no PR, but after the bench grinder, my back was feeling pretty fried. My first attempt was easy peasy, but my second got away from me a bit at the bottom and was more of a grinder than I was expecting. I was feeling nervous going into my third because of how heavy my second felt and only went for a small jump of 2.5kg. I rushed my set up and again it got away from me at the initial pull. I know I'll be working on lots of deficit pulls and upping my conditioning.

Opener :140kg/308lbs
Second :152.5kg/336lbs
Third :155kg/341lbs - MISS

At the end of the day, I'm happy with the 22lb meet PR. Goggins said it perfectly, good, but not great. I have some lessons to take home to training so I'll bring a great package to Nationals.

"Awesome squats, everything was on point for squats. I think 319-325 is possible by Nationals. Bench needs more pause training and just continue grinding as before. I really think the commands were a little too long for the bench. The deadlift was great but need more deficit work and conditioning to take it to the next level.
Overall Méana had a good meet. A great meet for her will put her ahead of anyone in her country."
