Qualified National Strongman competitor and will be competing in Nationals this coming October to qualify for The Arnold in 2016

I am here to live, learn, and pass on.

Event day: Mike had me work on the log and yoke. I had to work in the morning, so my training had to be cut short. I wasn't able to do the "circus" DB presses, so I will be doing those on Monday, which is overhead presses/bench day.

Log Press:

These I did about a week ago -- working mainly on the presses for 3 reps  with 1 clean. This week we did the clean and press for each rep. I worked up to a heavy double for 4 working sets. I felt I did better last week with the presses because I was following through with my head and was a bit more explosive with my legs. Cleaning (no pun intended says Consuela) takes a lot out of me just because that is the hardest part of the implement. So by the second rep I was pretty fatigued.

Did 115lbs x 4

Went up to 120lbs but by the second clean I was done. Did that for 2 sets and was only able to get 1 out of 2 presses each set.

Yoke:

The yoke is something I've improved on the last few weeks as far as getting comfortable with the implement. Speed is obviously something I need to keep improving on but feeling confident under the yoke helps. And the only way to get better at the yoke is TO DO the yoke.

(Each set was timed for 50 feet)

Warmed up to 325lbs - 8.36 seconds

Went up to 365lbs for 4 working sets. The only set I was able to get under 10 seconds I lost balance and got a 2 second penalty. All other sets were just over 10 seconds. My goal for this training cycle is to get it under 9 seconds, if not, faster than that.

Girls who lift are not violent (for the most part)

Because I'm covered in chalk and sweat most of the week with constipated lifting faces and sumo buns most of the time, it's nice to dress up once in a while -- and I'm one who loves to dress up. Over-dress in some occasions. Kim made it a point that she wanted to go dancing and I was in (why the hell not) -- and by the way Kim, so glad to have you and brother down here!

Lesson 101

Why is "do you lift" always the opening line

Ok, so you want to be nice but:

It's like talking about work when you just got out of work or explaining something people don't know much about (this is not crossfit and I'm not a bodybuilder -- two completely different things).

Why is it when we see something awkward with a friend who lifts, you compare it to lifting. We saw a nice Harley with the handles way up above the bikers head. Our analogy: "That's like a permanent front raise. I would die."

Just because you are muscular doesn't make you a violent person: "Sir, I will not punch that guy in the stomach."

Never poke someone's bicep. Just don't. It's weird and creepy.

Have fun regardless.
